Performing the duties of a tour manager

The duty of a tour manager is to take care of a group as a whole and each participant individually. It is his responsibility to let the client spend time in a nice, interesting, memorable way.  It is the duty of a tour manager to inform about all the details of the trip. Prior to departure, as well as after each stop, he checks the number of participants, draws attention to the discipline of the group.

A tour manger also serves as a representative, because he represents the group during its time of stay (restaurants, hotels, galleries). He is the so called operator of the tour.  He holds all tour documents (tickets, vouchers, passports) and financial means for the necessary charges.

The tour manager is also engaged in activities related to the accommodation of participants, collecting bills or confirmation of the provided services.  In emergency situations on the road, he takes decisions on behalf of the travel office.

During the journey, he talks about the places to which and through which the trip follows. He refers to the history, traditions, customs, politics or culture of the particular region. He therefore should be acquainted in many fields such as history, geography, culture and the arts, politics.

Overall, the tour manager appears as an organizer and representative of the travel office that sends people on the journey. On the one hand, he handles the administrative tasks of the group of tourists, and on the other hand - renders the journey pleasant and explains most doubts.  Oversees the completion of the tour and the safety of the participants from the very beginning until the very end of the event, that is until arrival to the final destination.

The tour manager is viewed as an interesting profession.  However, it requires the ability and skills of fast learning and memorizing, as well as extensive knowledge which should be constantly updated.

From January 1st, 2014, the profession has been deregulated, which means that access to it is much easier.   A person wishing to become a tour manager does not need to take theoretical or practical training.  There is no need to take exams either. It is enough if the person is at least 18 years of age, graduates secondary education and holds no penal record in connection with the exercise of the duties of a tour manager or a tourist guide.
